I was surfing the internet recently and came across this post about a home in Denver Colorado that a couple purchased some time back. I was taken back by the brilliant amount of pink and the original condition of the home. This place had the ultimate set up. Anyways, I guess they were planning to modernize the home and wanted to sell off all the fully functional and original appliances. I wanted to flip out when I thought of them ripping those appliances out. Why can’t I find a place like this? They don’t understand how lucky they are. This should be a museum!
Here is what they said:
“I posted my appliances a couple of years back when my husband and I first purchased our 50’s custom home. The home came complete with these amazing appliances well maintained and cared for. Finally we are ready to let them go.”

Oh yes, that is a refrigerator. I so want this in my next home.

Because one awesome pink refrigerator isn't enough.

Why don’t they just buy a modern house?? They obviously don’t value the vintage lifestyle. Leave it for someone who would! Pitchforks are in order : P

OhhhhhhhhhhhMYGAWD. Hepcat, how could you show us this?! This is a tragedy!!! These appliances look like new out of the box and GORGEOUS. Am I almost in tears? You guess. Let’s just hope they were sold to someone who will love & cherish them & not just trashed. Oh man.

I am serious…. that house was built for me. I am all pink and nothing but pink (unless it goes with pink). I even SOUND pink sometimes…..I smell pink…. I eat pink food…. I have lots of pink shoes….my thoughts are pink….my dreams are pink….ugh. I needed to buy that house. It would complete me! Thanks for showing us this…. but HOW MEAN to show me something I can never have! 😉 Just kidding… great post! Cheers! Sherry

I agree Jennifer. It makes me want to start some kind of foundation for unwanted, functional retro appliances. Maybe I could run commercials late at nite and could say “for just pennies a day you can save these unwanted retro appliances from the scrap heap”. I could send a photo of the appliance they adopted and give them updates on how they are doing. Ok, maybe I am going too far with this. Thanks for your post!

Wow how wonderful, the condition is remarkable… I guess the original owners were eating out a lot and not using the appliances too much then? I agree with the fact that some people just don’t appreciate things, they would have been better off buying a house similar that was a fixer up er so they could just gut it anyway … without ruining something of historic value (the general masses don’t see the value of the era YET but in hindsight they will, as we have with all other eras of design / architecture, it just takes time) ANYWAY what drives me crazy even to THINK about it is the show on HGTV (isn’t it?) the TV show about people transforming “horror” bathrooms and kitchens into contemporary ‘better’ styles…. I die a little when I see someone take a sledge hammer to beautiful pink bathrooms! I haven’t even really watched that show — I’ve only seen the commercials, I know I’d cringe.

Yeah, instead of destroying the pieces, how about donating them? I think the producers/designers are so eager to get their stamp on a remodel and get the job done that they don’t care about what is being sacrificed.

I’ll admit I’m not a Pink fan but this is lovely and one of a kind, they just don’t build or make things like this today~ Yes it makes me sad, I so not change anything, other then the TV, I toss out! …Sad beyond words~~~

I have been remodeling my own 1954 kitchen. I have the same exact GE stove and range but in yellow. When started to demo the cabinet the electric range, I put out feelers for anyone that wanted it. Free. I thought maybe someone wanted to put working vintage appliances in their home. I got zero interest. People wanted newer modern appliances. So the electric range was dismantled. Now I am about to pull out the matching oven. I have already put in a brand new gas stove/range which is a huge help with my PG&E bill. No one in my area is interested in the oven. They all want newer more efficient ranges.

Hey Christina, It is a sad reality that the old stuff costs more to have. People are all about saving money and it is sad that soo much of these items end up in the landfill. What can you do though?

I have this 1950’s refrigerator in yellow on my wall that is working. Also a a vintage Kitchen Aid dishwasher and 1950’s Nutone hood. They sure don’t make things like they used to.! That being said, I am goin to sell my house this summer and five different realtors recommend updating the kitchen and appliances. Anyone know how I’d go about selling these rare finds. Besides eBay that is.
